Sarah Ourahmoune (born January 21, 1982 in Sèvres ) is a French boxer . In 2008 she was world champion and in 2016 Olympic runner-up in Rio de Janeiro in the weight class up to 51 kg.

Career

Sarah Ourahmoune started boxing in Aubervilliers in 1996 . She joined the sports club BC Beats d'Aubervilliers. Her first trainer was Said Bennajem. Since women's boxing was only allowed in France in 1997, she was only able to complete her first fight in 1998. In 1999 she became French champion for the first time. This title was followed by two more in 2000 and 2003. In 2002 she joined the INSEP sports boarding school. Sarah Ourahmoune is one of the pioneers of French women's boxing.

From 2001 Sarah Ourahmoune also competed in international competitions. The tournaments and championships for women were not that numerous at that time and were still in the process of becoming. In 2001 she started at the first World Cup for women, which took place in Scranton , USA . In the weight class up to 51 kg, she lost her last sixteen fight against Maarit Teuronen from Finland on points (9:11) and finished in 9th place. She also competed at the 2002 World Cup in Antalya . Here she started in the weight class up to 48 kg. In her first fight she was the demolition winner in the 2nd round over Erkanayake from Sri Lanka and in the quarterfinals she lost against Meena Kumari from India on points (18:30). It took 5th place.

Sarah Ourahmoune was inactive from 2004 to 2006.

In 2007 she made a comeback, which was very successful. After some development struggles, it was used at the European Championships in Veilje / Denmark . She won there in the weight class up to 48 kg over Kinga Rusczynska from Poland on points (10: 2), but lost in the semifinals against Lidia Ion from Romania , with which she won an EM bronze medal.

In 2008 she became French champion again. She won this title in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 in the weight classes up to 48 and 51 kg body weight.

In November 2008, she took part in the World Championship in Ningbo City , China . In the weight class up to 48 kg she won over Nandintsetse Myagmadulam, Mongolia (13: 3), Sofie Molholt, Denmark (12: 4), Jacqui Park, Canada (8: 2) and Jenny Hardingz , Sweden (8: 0). In the final she met the Chinese Chen Ying , against whom she lost with 1: 5 points. After this final, however, the doping control found that Chen Ying was doped. The world title was then awarded to Sarah Ourahmoune.

In 2009 Sarah Ourahmoune competed at the European Championships in Nikolajew ( Ukraine ), where she won the points over Jana Levankowa, Belarus (13: 0) in her first fight in the weight class up to 48 kg. In the quarter-finals, she just lost to Jenny Hardingz (1: 2), so she was eliminated and finished in 5th place. She also did not win a medal at the 2010 World Cup in Bridgtown / Barbados . She won there over Natalja Knjaz, Ukraine on points (3: 1), but lost in the round of 16 against Kim Myong-Sim from North Korea on points (3: 6), which meant she was eliminated and finished in 9th place.

She achieved another great success in 2011. At the European Championships in Rotterdam , she defeated Jana Juranowa, Czech Republic (26: 4), Tatjana Kob, Ukraine (17:10) and Karolina Michalczuk , Poland ( in the weight class up to 51 kg ). 42:10) on points. In 2016 Ourahmoune took part in the European Olympic qualification tournament in Samsun . Here she won her first fight against the Dutch Alicia Holzken , but then lost again in the quarterfinals against Nicola Adams. At the World Championships the following year, Ourahmoune penetrated with wins against Le Thi Bang, Vietnam (2-0), Amel Chebbi, Tunisia (TKO 1), Anush Grigoryan, Armenia (3-0), and a non-fighting win over Ren Cancan , China , advance to the semi-finals.
