Sarnowo [ sarˈnɔvɔ ] (German Scharnau ) is a district of the municipality Kozłowo in Poland . It is located in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship twelve kilometers southwest of the city of Nidzica (Neidenburg) halfway to Działdowo (Soldau).

history

There are also traces of Ice Age settlement in the vicinity of the village.

The place was first mentioned in a document on October 28, 1352 . A church already existed in pre-Reformation times.

On the basis of the provisions of the Versailles Treaty , the population in the Allenstein voting area , to which Scharnau belonged, voted on July 11, 1920 whether it would continue to belong to East Prussia (and thus to Germany) or join Poland. In Scharnau, 490 residents voted to remain with East Prussia, Poland did not receive any votes.

In January 1945 the place was conquered by Soviet troops and placed under Polish administration.

Parish

Scharnau was a Protestant parish until 1945 . The following places also belonged to this parish: Niedenau, Klein-Sakrau, Kadicki, Schönwiese.
