The Sauerland Forest Route is a 240 km long hiking trail in the Sauerland that connects the North Rhine-Westphalian cities of Iserlohn and Marsberg .

It was officially opened on May 17, 2008 in Hirschberg by Eckhard Uhlenberg (Environment Minister) and Eva Irrgang (District Administrator of the Soest district).

course

The Sauerland forest route is divided into a route and a subsequent circular route and touches or passes through these towns and communities: The route leads from the starting point in Iserlohn near the parking hall (junction Langguthstrasse from Südstrasse ; approx.  277  m ) Hemer , Balve , Sundern , Arnsberg and Möhnesee to Warstein , where it meets the end point of the circular route south of the city near the Warsteiner brewery ( Wideystraße junction from Im Waldpark ; approx.  366  m altitude). The circular route runs from Warstein via Rüthen , Büren , Brilon (with the alpine springs there ), Bad Wünnenberg , Marsberg , Diemelsee , Brilon, Olsberg and Bestwig to Meschede and then back to Warstein. Since the route connects Iserlohn with Marsberg, from Warstein onwards, however, the circular route is referred to as a north and south loop leading to Marsberg.

Stages and adventure points

The entire route of the Sauerland forest route (with north and south loops) is divided into 16 stages, which have different lengths between 5.4 km and 21.7 km. The route is complemented by numerous access and circular routes.

There are several adventure points along the hiking trail: the “forest route legends” between Iserlohn and Balve, the forest experience beaver path near Rüthen, the Lörmecke tower near Warstein, the Klangwald and the Möhneseeturm near the Möhnesee (all three in the Arnsberg Forest Nature Park ) and the Kyrillwald at Sorpesee .
