history

House in Schönau

The Waldhufendorf Schönau was first mentioned in a document in 1418. The place was at times a desert in the 15th century . In 1529 there were nine estates in the village. The oldest building in the village is the Hammergut, mentioned between 1488 and 1620. In 1591 a mill was first mentioned, which was driven by the water of the drive. The abundant deposits of granite and its weathering product sand in Schönau were used for many years for commercial purposes. Two stone crosses from the 16th century have been preserved in a garden on Treuener Strasse. In 1758, a small tavern was mentioned to the left of the drive, which is probably the predecessor of today's Schönauer Gasthof.

Around 1738 Schönau was divided into "Upper" and "Lower" Schönau, which were connected by a bridge over the Trieb. Schoenau has always belonged to the parish of Bergen , to which Trieb also belongs in addition to Schoenau and Bergen. Regarding the manorial estate , Schönau was an official village in the Plauen office around 1583 , and around 1764 the manorial estate was divided between the Plauen office (official share) and the Thossfell manor .

Until 1856 Schönau belonged to the Electoral Saxon or later Royal Saxon Office of Plauen . In 1856 Schönau was affiliated to the Falkenstein court office and in 1875 to the Auerbach administration . The neighboring town of Siebenhitz , first mentioned in 1791, was incorporated into Schönau in 1862. August Schwabe and Otto Wappler brought the embroidery industry to Schönau in 1894. At the turn of the century, twelve red shell houses and extensions for embroidery were built. There were 122 embroidery machines in the village in 1912. In 1944 there were 46 stickers including threaders and 22 embroidery machine owners in Schönau.

On January 1, 1950, the community of Schönau with its district Siebenhitz was moved to Trieb / Vogtl. incorporated. The second district reform in the GDR made Schönau a part of the municipality of Trieb / Vogtl. in 1952 to the district of Auerbach in the Chemnitz district (renamed the Karl-Marx-Stadt district in 1953 ), which was continued in 1990 as the Saxon district of Auerbach and was merged into the Vogtland district in 1996. On January 1, 1999 the municipality of Trieb / Vogtl. with its districts Schönau and Siebenhitz were incorporated into Falkenstein, which gave Schönau district status. The "Milchgut Triebal" founded in 1976 was transferred to a private GbR in 1990. The site is to be made usable again by renovating the former natural pool from 1930.
