Schallenburg is a district of the city of Sömmerda with about 365 inhabitants. The place is located in the north of Thuringia in the district of Sömmerda .

Schallenburg is located in the Unstrutaue southwest of the core town of Sömmerda, directly on the river near the city and the federal highway 176 .

history

The first documentary mention of the place took place on February 19, 1327. The village of Schallenburg is located at a crossing of the Unstrut and was protected by the medieval castle of Schalkenburg . In the late Middle Ages, Schallenburg was part of the Sömmerda office and, together with the town of Sömmerda, belonged to the city ​​of Erfurt from 1418 as a fief of the Fulda monastery .

Since 1815 Schallenburg belonged to the Kingdom of Prussia , district of Weißensee . Part of the Wenigen-Schallenburg desert is located in the current district . According to a statistical study, the village of Schallenburg had 486 Protestant residents around 1840. 95 houses, 181 stables and barns, three meetinghouses, a jug and a school were mentioned. A teacher taught the school-age 45 boys and 54 girls. At that time the following trades were in operation in Schallenburg: a 4-speed grinding mill and an oil mill. Gypsum was broken in a quarry and made into building material. The artisanal weaving and textile production was present with three line looms. The village corridor comprised 2308 acres , of which the utilized agricultural area comprised 1930 acres of arable land, 27 acres of garden land, 245 acres of meadow and 53 acres of pasture. Furthermore, 53 acres of community forest were mentioned. There is a high-yield fruit cultivation, the trees consist of softwoods (willow, birch and alder).
