Tarzoon: Shame of the Jungle (French: Tarzoon, la honte de la jungle) is a 1975 Franco-Belgian cartoon for adults directed by Picha and Boris Szulzinger .

action

The film takes place in the middle of the African jungle, in Bush Country. The evil, fourteen-breasted and bald-headed Queen Bazonga, who lives in an airship, decides, together with her double-headed Figaro Charles, to get the scalp of June, who lives in the jungle, in order to transplant her lush hair growth onto her head, and sends her penis soldiers out, to kidnap June. Shame, who lives with June, notices that his playmate has disappeared in the morning and decides to save her. Although June prefers to have fun with his chimpanzee, since Shame cannot satisfy her sufficiently himself, he and the monkey Flicka go looking for his big-breasted girlfriend. As Shame swings through the jungle, a plane crashes into a huge mud pit. The crew consists of the eccentric Professor Cedric Addlepate, the rather naive Stella Starlet, the grumpy Brutish and his nervous assistant Short. Because the scientists have come to Africa to prove Shame's existence, he is initially stopped by them when he and the crew meet in the jungle. Soon, however, they get caught up in the clutches of cannibals. Ultimately, Shame manages to escape and free June. The hero owes this to the chance that the queen's weapons, her bouncing penis soldiers, turn against the queen herself. Stella Starlet, however, becomes queen of the ogre and plans to conquer Hollywood.

reception

Shame of the Jungle emerges from the mass of porn animated film productions of the 70s and 80s in that it differs greatly from the mostly German cartoon porn in terms of visual aesthetics and the design of the plot. In 1975 Belgium proposed Tarzoon, la honte de la jungle as Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards , but the film was not nominated by the Academy. It was the second cartoon ever proposed in this category.

production

The film work ended in 1975. The film was promptly dubbed in German by Berliner Synchron GmbH (dubbing director: Dietmar Behnke, dialogue book: Michael Richter) . The following year, Edgar Rice Burroughs' heirs sued the makers of Tarzoon and 20th Century Fox over alleged plagiarism. Therefore, the film title and the name of the main character Tarzoon were changed before the film could also be shown in the USA and was only released there from 1979 under the title Shame Of The Jungle . However, a French court ruled that the film was a legitimate parody.

For a revision of the film with new dialogues for the American market, actors and comedians such as John Belushi , Adolph Caesar, Brian Doyle-Murray, Judy Graubart, Bill Murray and Johnny Weißmüller Jr. were won over. Another lawsuit from Burroughs' heirs resulted in the movie's title ultimately being changed to Shame of the Jungle , as well as some character names.

distribution

The film, which was not released for young people in Germany less because of the sexuality portrayed than its partially malicious image content, was only removed from the index in 2008. Still, the film drew 1.3 million people to the cinemas in the 80s. In 2009, the distribution company WVG in Germany brought out Schande des Jungle with a German and French soundtrack at the same time, The Big Bang and The Missing Link (only with a German soundtrack) , both of which also come from the makers Picha and Szulzinger. This DVD contains a previously unpublished Director's Cut version of the film. In 2011, Shame of the Jungle was released by Lace DVD in the UK. In 2015, on the 40th anniversary of its completion, Shame of the Jungle was presented in a restored version.
