The drama school der Keller (formerly the school of theater in the Theater der Keller ) is a private, state-recognized drama school in Cologne and has been training actors for theater, film, television and radio for over 60 years. It cooperates with the independent Cologne theater der Keller , but is spatially separate and financially independent. Particular attention is paid to the practical part of the acting training, so the drama students already play at the Theater der Keller and at other municipal and private theaters during their training. Students are also encouraged to get involved in the fields of film, television and radio during their training.

history

In 1954, the actor couple Marianne Jentgens and Heinz Opfinger founded a private training center for actors on the advice of the general manager of the stage of the city of Cologne and called it the "School of Theater". A year later, the Theater der Keller was founded as a venue for drama students. Since then there has been a connection between the school and the Keller Theater as a venue for schoolchildren and graduates. The school thus follows an approach that is primarily intended to provide the students with game practice. At the beginning of 2014, the school was renamed to its current name.

Education

As is usual at all German-speaking drama schools, admission is tied to an aptitude test , which lasts between two and three days and usually runs over three rounds. As a private training facility, the school is supported exclusively by the school fees of its students. There is no financial support from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia or the city of Cologne . Projects are supported by the Friends' Association and the Theater der Keller. The status of the non-profit status implies a non-profit enterprise . The school is funded according to BAFöG . In addition to theoretical subjects and seminars, practical lessons are the main focus of the training. After a 3½ year training period, the graduates complete the stage maturity examination.
