First you descend 150 meters in altitude from the hut before you reach the eastern edge of the western Scheiblehnferner in a southerly direction and then follow the markings over the southwest ridge to the summit. Along this route, the Scheiblehnkogel can also be climbed as a ski tour , especially in spring . The transition to the Hohlkogel has climbing difficulties of UIAA grade I , the northwest ridge requires climbing of difficulty grade II.

The Innsbruck alpinist Ludwig Purtscheller made the first known ascent of the Scheiblehnkogel in 1882.
