The Siegerlandhütte is an Alpine Club hut of the Siegerland section of the German Alpine Club . It is located at an altitude of 2710  m at the foot of some three-thousand-meter peaks in the Stubai Alps at the head of the Windach Valley east of Sölden in the Ötztal .

History

The Siegerland section first built the Marburg-Siegener Hut in the Sarntal Alps from 1911 to 1914 . However, like all other huts of the German and Austrian Alpine Club (DuOeAV) on Italian soil, this was confiscated by Italy after the end of the First World War . In order to create a replacement, a decision was made in 1925 to build a new building in the rear Windach valley east of Sölden in the Ötztal. The financing was secured through member donations and grants from the DuOeAV and the city and district of Siegen . Construction work took place in the summers of 1928 and 1929. After the end of the Second World War , the Siegerlandhütte was temporarily confiscated and held in trust by the Austrian Alpine Association until it was returned in 1956 .

The Siegerlandhütte is considered an exemplary hut of the German Alpine Club. In the summer of 2010, the new water turbine with an output of around 6 kW was put into operation. The hut currently (as of 2016) has 28 dormitories / beds and 21 mattress dormitories / beds with shared showers. The winter room offers a dining room and six beds. There is space for around 50 people in the dining room.

In the summer of 2008, the old shed was replaced by a new outbuilding, in which the well-equipped winter room is also integrated. Until then it was housed in the basement of the hut. Due to the somewhat secluded location and the relatively long distances to get there, the Siegerlandhütte has been spared the effects of mass tourism to this day.

The hut has been managed by Edeltraud Fiegl and Raimund Gritsch since summer 2015. Her predecessors were Veronika and Hermann Fiegl for many years.
