Scheschonq, Beloved by Amun

Scheschonq II. Was high priest of Amun in Thebes and probably for a short time co-regent of his father Osorkon I. His brothers were Takelot I and the high priests Iuwelot and Smendes III. He was married to Nestanebtaschru, among others, and had with her the son Harsiese , who later became high priest of Amun of Thebes and the opposing king. The mother of Scheschonq II was called Maatkare, the daughter Psusennes II.

Scheschonq II. Is 924 BC Raised by his father as the successor of his deceased half-brother Iupet to the position of high priest of Amun in Thebes. On one of four statues in Karnak he writes his name in a cartouche , with which he registers his claim to power. He describes himself as "Lord of the South and the North", "the leader of the great army of all Egypt ". Sheschonq II. Bears the throne name : With "princely figure, chosen of Re" and dies suddenly. With that rule passes to his own half-brother Iuwelot .

His grave

Scheschonq II is buried in the antechamber of the grave of Psusennes I in Tanis . The rich grave equipment contained a gold mask, a falcon-headed silver coffin, pectorals, silver entrails, canopic jars and amulets.

Scheschonq II: name for more than one pharaoh?

At the international conference The Libyan Period in Egypt: Historical and chronological problems of the The Third Intermediate Period of the Department of Egyptology of the University of Leiden in October 2007 it was established and confirmed in a resolution that the name Scheschonq II was used for at least three different pharaohs becomes. It is a matter of :
