Scheunenviertel
The Scheunenviertel is the area on the outskirts of a village , which is mostly contiguous and along the road with barns for storing hay , but also straw . The reason for the arrangement of the mostly wooden barns in front of the gates (i.e. outside) the towns or villages was the high risk of fire due to the possible spontaneous combustion of the stored mowing .
description
Due to the structural change in agriculture, the buildings in the Scheunenviertel have often been converted or demolished. Projects such as the “Regional Scheunenviertel of the Aller-Weser-Hunte region” in Lower Saxony have set themselves the goal of documenting the importance and development of the Scheunenviertel and making it tangible. They also try to preserve the buildings that still exist.
