The Schiefer-Wackenweg in the Trier-Saarburg district is a dream loop of the Saar-Hunsrück Steige , which runs in the northern Saarland and in the Hunsrück .

The circular hiking trail starts in Thomm at the Bürgerhaus. It runs past the village fountain and the old Thommer Born in an easterly direction to Herl to the Herler Wacken . Other stops include the Feller Hof , the former Vogelsberg quarry, the Fell visitor mine , the former Fell concrete block works of the Counts of Kesselstatt , the former Thommer slate mine , the Thommerberg dump landscape , the Thomm boys forest hut and back to Thomm.

The Schiefer-Wackenweg has been certified as a premium trail several times by the German Hiking Institute since 2009 .

The Thommer Mühle used to be located below the bridge over the Thommerbach between the towns of Thomm and Herl . A motorhome parking space is located on the Nossernbach near the Fell visitor mine.
