Ivar Leon Menger , (born October 25, 1973 in Darmstadt ) is a German author , director , designer , copywriter and publisher .

biography

Ivar Leon Menger was born in Darmstadt , Hesse . There he attended elementary school and subsequently the Georg Büchner School . After graduating from high school (1993), he studied graphic design at the University of Applied Science and Art ( HAWK Faculty ) in the field of design in Hildesheim ( Lower Saxony ). During his studies he discovered his passion for the medium of film.

After graduating as a designer in 1997, he worked from 1997 to 2002 as an advertising copywriter for the international advertising agency Ted Bates in Frankfurt am Main . During this time he began to write the screenplay for his short film Geiles Leid , based on an idea by Thomas Kaestle, and then to produce it. The twelve-minute thriller with leading actors Florian Lukas and Sven Wisser made it onto the DVD version of the science fiction thriller The Cell (with Jennifer Lopez , directed by Tarsem Singh ) as a bonus film . Suffering shared was honored in the framework program of the Berlinale 2002 with the Lost High-Tapes Award, which was presented for the first time in the same year, for “Germany's Best Short Film”.

Menger ended his employment with his previous employer and from 2002 worked in a video store ( video professionals - like most video stores no longer exists) as a video store in Darmstadt. At the same time he wrote and directed his second short film. The thriller with the title Tramper (with the actors Justus von Dohnányi and Fabian Busch ). In 2004 this was awarded the ProSieben Newcomer Director Award from the private TV broadcaster ProSieben . Encouraged by the success of two short films to Ivar Leon Menger screenplays decided for two feature films with the titles The Princess and Plan B to write. These were not made into a film, but later appeared as radio plays.

In 2007 Ivar Leon Menger took over his father Bernd Menger's advertising agency Creativ Concept Menger (today Menger.Design) in Darmstadt. In 2009 he founded his own audio book publisher, Psychothriller GmbH . He produced audio books until 2012 and then from 2013 e-books and print editions. Menger's Darkside Park sequel Porterville appeared here in 2013 . Half a year later this was set to music by Universal Studios and their German radio play / audiobook studio “Follow-up” as an audio book series.

Ivar Leon Menger lives today (2019) with his family near Darmstadt.

Career as a series author

Ivar Leon Menger wrote the audio book and radio play series Darkside Park in three seasons with a total of 18 episodes, Porterville with three seasons and 18 episodes and Terminal 3 with 9 episodes. 2015, followed by Mystery - Thriller Production Monster 1983 (completed after three seasons in 2015, 2016 and 2017 - each with 10 episodes and produced by Audible by Sound of Snow by Tommi Schneefuß in Berlin) together with the authors Anette Strohmeyer and Raimon Weber designed in the Writers' Room . A large number of well-known dubbing and radio play speakers were used for this purpose. Among others, Luise Helm , David Nathan , Joseline Gassen , Ekkehard Belle , Simon Jäger , Nana Spier , Benjamin Völz , Anke Reitzenstein , Martin Keßler , Charles Rettinghaus , Norbert Langer , Bernd Rumpf , Till Hagen , Udo Schenk , Hans-Georg Panczak and many more.

The first season of Monster was translated and produced in 1983 for the US and UK markets . Due to the suboptimal translation of the German language into English and the poor production by the English studio, this fell well short of expectations. The original trio of authors Menger / Strohmeyer / Weber could not influence the production of the English studio.

Beginning in 2018 began with the Menger work on its Mystery - Thriller radio drama series Ghostbox . The first season, consisting of 10 episodes, was released in January 2019 (produced by Audible ). As with the production of the three seasons of Monster in 1983 , a wealth of well-known speakers from film, TV, audio book and radio play productions were recorded for the recordings in the studio Sound of Snow by producer Tommi Snowfuss . He was also responsible for the arrangement and sound design within the entire production of the first season of Ghostbox . Henrik Cordes has been responsible for mixing and mastering at Menger's productions since 2010 , and sound maker Jörg Klinkenberg for steps and movements. For the background music , the composer and music producer Trevor U. Hurst has been working with Ynie Ray since the first season of Monster in 1983 together with the team around Ivar Leon Menger.

Currently - as of March 2019 - Ivar Leon Menger is working on the second season of his Ghostbox series on behalf of Audible Studios .

Career as a radio play author

After a semester as a lecturer at the TU Darmstadt from mid-2006 to mid-2007, Menger moved from Darmstadt to Berlin for a short time . It was there that he met the voice actors and actors Oliver Rohrbeck and Jens Wawrczeck ( Justus Jonas and Peter Shaw in the radio play series Die Drei ??? ). Rohrbeck and Wawrczeck recommended Ivar Leon Menger as the author of Die Drei ??? at Sony Entertainment . He got the contract from Sony (BMG) and then switched from the medium of film to radio plays and audio books.

Menger adapted the scripts of the two thrillers The Princess and Plan B, originally planned as feature films, to the radio play format and produced and published them with Lauscherlounge Records by Oliver Rohrbeck and Kai Schenker . The princess won the 2006 Best Adult Radio Play award in 2007 . The children's and adult radio play series Dodo followed in 2008 , also in collaboration with the Listening Lounge.

By January 2019, Ivar Leon Menger had published over 90 radio play and audio book titles.

As an author and producer, Ivar Leon Menger worked with several authors in the course of several productions until 2019. With John Beckmann at Dodo , with Raimon Weber , Christoph Zachariae, Hendrik Buchna ( Die Drei ??? ), John Beckmann and Simon X. Rost ( Die Playmos ) at Darkside Park . Together with Raimon Weber, Anette Strohmeyer , Hendrik Buchna, Simon X. Rost and John Beckmann at Porterville . Then again with John Beckmann and Raimon Weber at Mengers Terminal 3 . From 2015 to 2017 again with Anette Strohmeyer and Raimon Weber for the development of all three seasons of the Monster 1983 series .

Career as a publisher

With his publishing house Psychothriller GmbH , founded at the beginning of 2009, Ivar Leon Menger publishes, in addition to his own productions Darkside Park and Porterville , e-books and print editions by newcomer authors of the time in order to promote and develop them. These included, for example, Anette Strohmeyer (meanwhile author of the current 5-part Ondragon series and co-author of Porterville and Monster 1983 ), Andreas Krusch and Demian Lenz. From autumn 2013 Menger published literary classics that were no longer available in order to make them accessible to the public again. These include well-known works such as Rosemary's Baby , The Women of Stepford , The Gentle Monsters and Sliver by the author Ira Levin , Spuk in Hill House by Shirley Jackson including all other works by the author, two works by Henry Slesar , and The Goonies and Poltergeist by James Kahn .

theatre

The thriller chamber piece radio play Plan-B , written by Ivar Leon Menger, celebrated its world premiere as a play in March 2019 at the Alte Brücke Theater in Frankfurt am Main in the Sachsenhausen district .
