Friedeburg Castle

The Friedeburg Castle (also Friedeburg Castle ) is located in the town named after him Friedeburg in the city of Gerbstedt in the district of Mansfeld-Südharz in Saxony-Anhalt . It was created through a castle-like reconstruction or an extension of a pre-existing medieval castle . The facility is listed as a cultural monument under the description "Schloss Friedeburg, Burg Friedeburg" in the list of monuments of the State of Saxony-Anhalt .

history

Friedeburg was first mentioned in a document when Ulrich von Polleben, a brother of Count Hoyer IV. Von Mansfeld , acquired it through marriage before 1189. Several generations of the Friedeburg line of the Counts of Mansfeld lived in "Vredeberg". The castle should have existed at that time.

Burchard III. von Querfurt acquired Friedeburg together with Polleben in 1264 and 1266. Less than twenty years later, in 1280, the Halberstadt bishop Volrad Friedeburg gave a fief to the nobles of Hadmersleben , who have since been called " comites in Vredeberghe", ie Counts of Friedeberg . In 1272 Hoyer von Vredeberg is mentioned at the Hoyerswerda Castle named after him . In 1316 under Bishop Albrecht I the feudal sovereignty changed from Halberstadt to the Archdiocese of Magdeburg . Magdeburg often pledged Friedeburg to various donors.

In 1442 the entire rule of Friedeburg was again sold to the Counts of Mansfeld for the sum of 14,000 Schock Meissnian money and in the following year the castle was taken by Halle city governor Henning Strobart in a warlike act. Strobart fought against Archbishop Günther II on behalf of Halle and Magdeburg . The Mansfeld Counts kept Friedeburg until 1780. In the 16th and 17th centuries they pledged the rule to noble families, including the Pentz and Alvensleben . From 1595 the line from Mansfeld-Vorderort-Bornstedt was the owner of the castle or the palace. During the Thirty Years' War , the castle was plundered in 1630 by Magdeburg troops from the archbishopric administrator Christian Wilhelm and subsequently remained orphaned. In 1642 Friedeburg was still without residents. However, the castle was partially rebuilt by the official tenants until 1670. From 1732, the tenants also included the father and uncle of Friedrich Gottlieb Klopstock , who spent several childhood years here from 1732 until the lease was given up in 1736. Below the castle, a Tudor style manor house was built in the 19th century, which is now in ruins.

The castle remained the seat of the domain tenants until after the Second World War . In the GDR , the Prussian state property became a state property (VEG). After the fall of the Wall, the castle was sold into private hands.

The Friedeburg was built as a hilltop castle near the Saale . The main building is located south to the slope of the Schlossberg. This is unplastered and has two floors. Two lofts with terraces protrude from the facade. The windows are simple rectangular windows and the roof is covered with tiles without any further structuring. Other buildings and parts of the building stand around the inner and an outer courtyard in a roughly triangular plan.
