The Thin Man crambe ( Crambe strigosa ) is a plant from the genus crambe ( Crambe ). It is endemic to the Canary Islands and is called there by the common Spanish name "Col de risco".
description
The skinny sea kale is a small shrub that reaches heights of up to 1.5 meters. The woody stem axis is smooth. The up to 20 centimeters long, simple leaves are egg-shaped with a rough surface. The leaf margins are serrated irregularly with small, rounded teeth. The petioles of the adult leaves have a pair of almost opposite ears. Adult leaves are very densely hairy.
The branched, panicle inflorescence contains many small flowers . The small, hermaphrodite flowers are four-fold. The white petals are significantly longer than the calyx and are pointed (nailed) at the base. The fruit is a weakly four-ribbed pod .
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 30.
distribution
The skinny sea kale can be found on Tenerife and La Gomera . In Tenerife it is found locally on cliffs and hills in laurel forests , in the lowlands it is only found sporadically. Locations are near Cruz de Taganana, El Bailadero, Bajamar , Aguamansa, Icod de los Vinos , Los Silos and in the Barranco del Agua at altitudes between 400 and 1000 meters.
There are also reports of stocks on El Hierro; but this is most likely a separate species of C. feijoi Santos . On La Palma specimens were found in the Barranco del Agua, but their species allocation is doubtful.
In terms of plant sociology, the species belongs to the class Pruno-Lauretea azoricae.
Systematics
Within the genus Crambe , the skinny sea kale is grouped with 13 other species in the section Dendrocrambe DC. posed. Molecular genetic studies also showed that a monophyletic group of the five species Crambe pritzelii , Crambe santosii , Crambe strigosa , Crambe tamadababensis , and Crambe wildpretii exist. The closest relative of Crambe strigosa appears to be Crambe wildpretii . The relationship within the group shows the following cladogram :
