history

Schmidhofen was first mentioned as Smiedhoven in 1295 and by 1350 already had its own ban . The place with two settlement cores was probably created as an extension on the way from Tunsel to the Benedictine monastery St. Trudpert in the Münstertal ; Tunsel and Schmidhofen belonged to this monastery until the secularization of 1803. Agricultural products and especially wine for the monastery came from Tunsel, Schmidhofen mainly supplied honey and wax to the monks.

Attractions

As early as the 14th century, a chapel dedicated to Saints Felix and Nabor , who are invoked, among other things, for ear problems, was mentioned. This included a private estate and a cemetery. In the years 1716 and 1726 two men are said to have been healed of deafness in the chapel. The pilgrimages that followed required a larger chapel, which was built in 1759. The carving of the altars is attributed to Johann Michael Hartmann . Five years later, the abbot of St. Trudpert, Paul Ehrhard (1757–1780), had the “Zum Storchen” inn built opposite to look after the pilgrims; the restaurant operated there has been awarded a Michelin star since 2001 . In 1959 the Felix and Nabor Chapel was renovated.
