action

Theresa Mayr-Thorwald and Joe Müller each have a child to look after, but they have to cope with this on their own, despite their work. While Theresa got divorced and took over an architecture office with the severance pay, Joe has been a widower for three years. That's probably why he has a heavenly angel at his side - in the form of the sprightly pensioner Angela, who helps him look after his daughter Julia when he is doing his job as an architect and is also traveling abroad. Angela also plans to make a happy family out of the two single parents, which turns out to be complicated and resembles the story of the snowman and the snow woman , which Angela often tells children to fall asleep.

Theresa and Joe get to know each other when they bring their children Julia and Felix to school just before Christmas. Felix breaks his arm in an accident and has to be taken to hospital. Joe and Julia go with his mother, but this means that Joe misses a very important appointment. As a result, he was released without notice. Little does he know that he fell victim to an intrigue by his employer's ex-husband, who let Joe inform him that the appointment had been postponed and that his new boss is exactly the woman he has just met: Theresa , called Tessa.

Joe had been on a business trip abroad since he started and Theresa had never seen him either. Both are now extremely angry and take legal action against each other. Joe is hoping for severance pay and Theresa for compensation for the missed job. When Theresa discovers who “her Joe”, with whom she fell in love, really is, she doesn't dare to tell him the truth. She talks to her friend about it, who advises her to solve the unsuspecting Joe. But he has now received the counterclaim and is so angry that Theresa is unable to explain it to him.

It cannot withdraw the action because the bank insists on it. At the court hearing, Joe finds out who "his Tessa" really is. Disappointed, he withdraws.

After Theresa remembers why Joe didn't show up for the presentation, she realizes that they were both victims of an intrigue that only her ex-husband could be behind. He was able to win Theresa's employee Oskar Wellenbring to “knit the threads” for him. In return, he should become the new managing director when Thorwald takes over his wife's company. Theresa confronts Wellenbring and also makes it clear to her ex-husband that she would never sell to him.

Joe and Theresa realize, with Angela's help, that they both belong together and that nothing can stop their love. They reconcile and celebrate Christmas with their children. Angela, on the other hand, says goodbye and declares that she has to go on because there is nothing left for her to do here. She disappears in the alleys of the city with Santa Claus.

background

Schneemann sucht snowwoman was shot in Vienna from November to December 2001 , co-produced by ORF , ZDF and KirchMedia and produced by Dor Film . The shooting locations included the Christmas market on Spittelberg , Hotel Sacher , Franziskanerplatz , Kärntnerstraße and Ballgasse . Uli Fessler was responsible for the costume design and Susanne Quendler for the production design.

The fairy tale of the snowman and the snow woman says that the night before Christmas the snowmen are allowed to wander for a few hours. In addition, an angel comes down from heaven who touches her with her wings. Since the snowman and the snow woman had heard of each other, they set out to look at the same time, but the place where they stood was empty. So both went back sadly. But suddenly they saw each other and stormed each other, but the clock struck six and both froze again to form a snow figure. They cried because they missed each other and both melted into a small trickle that flowed into the valley. There the two brooks united and were able to find each other after all.

Reviews

The critics of the television magazine TV Spielfilm called the film a "droll and entangled love story from the pre-Christmas Vienna."
