Faster than the Eye (original title: Quicker Than the Eye ) is a co-production between Germany , Austria and Switzerland , a thriller from 1989. The film is also known under the alternative title “ Supertrick ”.

action

The renowned American magician and illusionist Ben Norell tours Europe accompanied by his assistant and friend Mary . Both share a relationship that Mary would deepen more yesterday than today. However, Ben does not react to these advances or rather awkwardly. Rather, he is very keen on his so-called " Super Trick " - to file - in which he wants to create a doppelganger means of projection technique. However, he fails time and again.

During a guest performance in Paris he got the chance to make a big appearance: he was supposed to organize the supporting program at a state reception in Switzerland . Ben and Mary agree and then go to Lucerne , where the gala in honor of the African statesman Makabuto will take place in a luxury hotel.

But during the magic show the president is assassinated - apparently by Norell. Ben then decides to go into hiding because he will be hunted by the police and secret services from now on. Now Mary is asked to organize a hiding place for Ben and to secretly conduct her own investigation to prove her partner's innocence. She receives support from the sophisticated Catherine , of all people , who had previously cast an eye on Ben. But despite their jealousy, the two women manage to work together successfully in the course of the film.

It turns out that the assassins closely watched Ben's show in Paris and thus found a propitious moment when he was out of sight in the decoration. So a doppelganger masked like Ben could appear and shoot down Makabuto. Mary and Catherine also find parts of the murder weapon and discover evidence that points to the businessman Schneider as a co-conspirator.

In order to prove his innocence beyond doubt, Ben only has the option of setting a trap for the perpetrators. Supported by the two women, he lures them onto his magic stage, where he can outsmart the assassins using his "super trick" - which he has since successfully put into practice. A little later these are found and arrested by the police.

In the end, Ben's reputation is restored and he and Mary finally deepen their relationship. The final shot shows both of them some time after the events - with their twin babies ...
