Schnook, outer dyke areas near Geversdorf is a former nature reserve in the Lower Saxony municipalities of Cadenberge in the combined municipality of Land Hadeln in the district of Cuxhaven and Balje in the combined municipality of Nordkehdingen in the district of Stade .
The nature reserve with the registration NSG LÜ 264 was around 265 hectares . Of this, 263 hectares were in the district of Cuxhaven and 2 hectares in the district of Stade. A small part of the nature reserve was part of the FFH area "Lower Elbe". The area has been under nature protection since February 16, 2004. On November 17, 2017, it opened up in the newly designated “ Untere Oste ” nature reserve . Responsible lower nature conservation authorities were the districts of Cuxhaven and Stade.
The former nature reserve is located east of Geversdorf in the river marsh of the Oste . It is located entirely in the dike area and is characterized by extensively used grassland and fallow land . The tide -influenced area is ditches, creeks and remnants of old arms crisscrossed the Oste. In the area of waters are Watt areas and reed beds to find. The nature reserve was a valuable area, especially for waders and water birds . In the opinion of the Lower Saxony State Office for Water Management, Coastal and Nature Protection , it is of great importance as the most important breeding and feeding area for meadow birds such as the lapwing , the common snipe and the redshank in the district Cuxhaven. With a mosaic of grassland, creeks, ditches and reed beds, this area is important throughout Germany for the preservation of these endangered species. In autumn 2017, pits and trenches are to be widened again through construction work. This is to be combined with the flattening of bank areas.
