The Schrofenpass is a 1688  m high mountain pass in the Alps , which lies on the border of Germany and Austria .

It is located on the border between the Oberallgäu district in Bavaria (Germany) and the state of Tyrol (Austria). The pass is located in the main ridge of the Allgäu Alps about 16 km (as the crow flies ) southwest of Oberstdorf between the Haldenwanger Eck ( tri-border region Bavaria, Tyrol and Vorarlberg ) in the west and the Biberkopf in the east. It connects Einödsbach (district of Oberstdorf) in the north with Warth in the south. At its feet run in the north of the Rappenalpbach (upper reaches of the Stillach in the Rappenalptal ) and in the south of the Lech .

There is no road over the Schrofenpass , so its mountain saddle can only be reached on foot or by mountain bike during a mountain tour via a narrow mule track .

The Schrofenpass is a highlight of many mountain bikers who are on an alpine cross on the Heckmair route or Joe route .

The pass was originally built in 1795 as a mule track. During the Second World War, parts of the Schrofen Pass were blown up to prevent the troops from advancing.
