The Bundeswehr Information Technology School ( ITSBw ) trains information technology specialists ( telecommunications and command support troops ) of all rank groups in the Bundeswehr. The school is subordinate to the Information Technology Command of the German Armed Forces and with around 7,000 graduates a year it is one of the largest schools in the German Armed Forces.

The ITSBw is currently located at the Telecommunications School ( Feldafing ), the General-Fellgiebel-Kaserne ( Pöcking ) and the Lechfeld Air Base, and a move to the General-Fellgiebel-Kaserne property is to be completed by 2020.

history

On June 24, 1956, the Telecommunication Troop Training School ( TSFmTr ) was set up in Sonthofen . On August 7, 1956, the telecommunications school of the army ( FmSHBw ) was set up. With Army Structure 2 , the training facility was relocated to Feldafing and Pöcking ( General-Fellgiebel-Kaserne ) in 1959 . In 1972 it was renamed the Telecommunications School and Technical College of the Army for Electrical Engineering ( FmS / FSHElT ). On June 28, 2005, as part of a handover appeals, the change from the Army branch to the military organizational area of the Armed Forces Base (SKB) took place.

The commander of the FmS / FSHElT was an officer with the rank of brigadier general . At the same time he was from 1995 to 2002 General of the Telecommunications Force (GenFmTr). With the change to the SKB, the function / title of general of the telecommunications force fell back to the army.

On September 28, 2006 the FmS / FSHEIT was decommissioned. Associated with this was the simultaneous establishment of the Bundeswehr Command Support School ( FüUstgSBw ) in Feldafing and the Bundeswehr Technical College for Information Technology ( FSBwIT ) also in Feldafing. In this way, the armed forces' joint training in the armed forces was combined across the armed forces.

Initially the school in the SKB was subordinate to the Armed Forces Office (SKA) in Bonn, on February 1, 2013 the FüUstgSBw was subordinated to the command support command of the Bundeswehr in Bonn . As part of the establishment of a new military organizational area for the cyber and information space (CIR), the Bundeswehr Command Support School was renamed the Bundeswehr Information Technology School on July 1, 2017.

structure

The focus of the school is on teaching and training. It creates the course programs, controls the central allocation of course places and the use of training facilities, mobile devices and the deployment of specialist instructors. IT support and the development of learning programs with computer assistance are also part of her area of responsibility.
