The Schwabbach , together with its main upper course, Brühlbächle , is a roughly 5 km long, roughly east-south-east running brook in the municipality of Bretzfeld in the Hohenlohe district in northern Baden-Württemberg , which in the eponymous capital of the municipality flows from the left into the middle course of the Brettach , which strives towards the Kocher .

geography

The Schwabbach arises on the northwestern outskirts of the village of the same name Schwabbach from the confluence of the right Brühlbächles , which is part of the main stream due to its larger sub-catchment area, and the left, somewhat longer Siebeneicher Bächles , at about 221  m above sea level. NN

Upper Brühlbächle

The Brühlbächle arises at about 247  m above sea level. NN in forest Winterhälden , about two kilometers from the village Schwabbach removed from Bretzfeld and runs about in the corridor of the village to the east and soon.

Upper course of Siebeneicher Bächle

It arises around half a kilometer west of Siebeneich at the foot of the Himmelreich vineyard slope at around 258  m above sea level. NN , flows first eastwards and through the village, then in a southern course to the union with the Brühlbächle.

Course of the Schwabbach

The resultant of Schwabbach on the upper edge Schwabbach first flows in about southeast direction through the village. Towards the lower end of the village, the Schmalbach flows into it from the north and then in Rappach from the right side the Dimbach coming from the west , its 5 km longest tributary, which also contributes a little over half of the Schwabbach catchment area. The Schwabbach finally flows east through the wide valley level of its receiving water, there immediately takes up the Mühlgraben , a left branch of the Brettach, and then flows into the main town of Bretzfeld, which is divided by the floodplain, from the left and 4.9 km below the Brühlbächles source from the left the middle Brettach .

After its name run of only 2.8 km, the Schwabbach flows about 14 meters below its confluence, so it has an average bed gradient of only about 5 ‰.

Catchment area

The Schwabbach drains a 21.6 km area approximately eastwards to Brettach, along the western edge of which is a forest zone, while the greater part in the center consists of agricultural land interspersed with large villages. With the exception of small fringes, the whole area belongs to the municipality of Bretzfeld . In terms of nature, the forest area in the west belongs to the Sulmer Bergebene , a north-western sub-area of the Swabian-Franconian Forest Mountains , in which the highest elevations in the catchment area are located - up to 317.7  m above sea level. NN a little west above the origin of the Dimbach - while the central area is part of the westernmost sub-area Brettachbucht of the Hohenloher and Haller Plains .

The large streams begin on the slope below small reed sandstone plateaus ( Stuttgart formation ) of the wooded mountains in the west in the Gipskeuper ( Grabfeld formation ), in which the Schwabbach remains and flows. On the plateaus in the west there is partly island-like loess sediment from Quaternary deposits, which also covers the entire area of the inner Brettach Bay, at least where the streams in the broader valley floodplains are not accompanied by an alluvial sediment band.
