The Schwarzenbachtal is a Flensburg notch valley that lies mainly between the districts of Nordstadt and Neustadt and on the edge of the Westliche Höhe . It is characterized by green areas , forest areas , allotment garden areas and peripheral development areas . The course of the valley is no longer clearly visible today.

background

designation

The valley is said to have been popularly named after the stream there and the “Schwarzenburg” formerly located there. The "Schwarzenburg" is said to have been located "above" in the said valley at Norderallee ( Lage ) and was built by master shipbuilder Nicolay Thielsen ( 1816 ; † 1870 ), who became a farmer with the construction. Not much is known about the owner of the building. The last ship that Nicolay Thielsen built was apparently a brig called "Maria" in 1850 . Most of what is known about him relates to his death. On October 2, 1870, Thielsen was found in a wood not far from his apartment with a broken skull. On October 6th, the hill worker Joachim Heinrich Ad. Kohlscheen was arrested in Sonderburg , but he escaped during a subsequent site inspection, which led to great excitement in the neighboring new town . On October 7th, the fugitive was arrested again on the Handewitter field near Schäferhaus . In the jury trial on December 9, the defendant pleaded guilty. The verdict was manslaughter . The convict was sentenced to life in Glückstadt and Rendsburg , but was released after sixteen years after a pardon from the emperor . The reason for naming the building as "Schwarzenburg" is unclear. The color adjective "black" originally referred to something dark, dirty-colored and, in later parlance, also something hidden and uncanny. In various Flensburg legends, for example, "black" names can be found, the black pig , the black poodle . The name of the former Blackmöle castle from the legend of Eddeboe could also be interpreted as a "dark" water mill . In 1926, a road was laid out in the lower area of the Schwarzenbach valley and built on at the same time. On January 20, 1928, this street was officially named Schwarzental .

Changes through the ages

The Schwarzenbach was completely piped from the source to the mouth on the Flensburg Fjord . In the upper, western area of the Schwarzenbachtal, south of Schwalbenstraße, there is now a path for pedestrians along the original course of the stream, which begins below the wooded slope at Lornsendamm , opens up the allotment garden colony below and leads to Eckener Straße . A continuation of the path to the original confluence by the urban redevelopment company has recently been considered. In the course of time parts of the Gertrudenholz south of the valley apparently also disappeared (cf. St. Gertrud (Flensburg) ). There is still a small forest in the Schwarzenbachtal itself. The small wood is at the end of Norderallee , where the road narrows to a pedestrian path that leads down into the valley.

The edge of the Schwarzenbach valley was gradually built on. The Harrisleer Straße , which runs parallel to the valley to the north , was built on until the end of the 19th century. As already mentioned, the Schwarzental road was not built until the 1920s. During the Nazi era , Flensburg was significantly expanded militarily. Among other things, the tank barracks were built at the end of the undeveloped Schwarzenbachtal . At the same time, Social Democrats still lived in the north of the city, who refused to give in to the harassment of the National Socialists and instead began to develop resistant behavior . Some of them also lived on Harrisleer Strasse and the neighboring Strasse Schwarzental.

In January 1976, over twenty hectares of the valley were designated as areas of the newly established Schwarzenbachtal landscape protection area.

Zoning plans

In 2015, planning began for the “Schwarzenbachtal residential area” east of the tank barracks . The plans provide for the maintenance of the main building of the tank barracks. After completion, the residential area will consist of multi-storey, modern flat-roof houses that will extend to the Junkerhohlweg barracks . This measure is intended to create more than 400 apartments in the new district. A kindergarten is to be built to the west of the tank barracks. The large children's playground to the west is to be redesigned. Other play equipment for children can also be found on the aforementioned footpath, south of Schwalbenstraße, in the upper area of the Schwarzental. The residential district project should be completed by 2019.
