List of grape varieties

Black muscatel is a red wine variety . It presumably emerged from a mutation in the yellow muscatel . In Italy it is approved under the name Moscato nero in the provinces of Asti , Alessandria and Cuneo . In Greece, the main distribution area of the variety called Moschomavro (Greek: Μοσχόμαυρο) or Moschato mavro is in the regional districts of Kozani and Grevena in the Macedonia region . In Western Thrace , the variety may be added to the Thrakiko table wine.

The old variety was introduced to England as early as 1654 by Sir William Temple (1628–1699), an English diplomat and writer and master of Jonathan Swift , where the variety was grown in greenhouses for consumption as a table grape .

Ampelographic varietal characteristics

In ampelography , the habitus is described as follows:

  • The shoot tip is open. It is slightly woolly hairy with a slightly reddish-bronze tinge. The bronze-colored young leaves are slightly hairy and shiny.
  • The medium-sized, thick leaves are rounded (usually longer than wide), five-lobed and clearly indented. The stem bay is open in a V-shape. The sheet is serrated to a point. The teeth are medium-sized compared to the grape varieties. The leaf surface (also called blade) is slightly blistered.
  • The cylindrical grape is hardly shouldered, large, long and medium-sized with dense berries. The round to slightly elongated berries are medium-sized and black-blue in color. The skin of the berry is thick. The aroma of the juicy berry is fine and has an aromatic bouquet with a pronounced nutmeg taste.

The grape variety shoots out early and ripens about 20 days after the Gutedel .
