Schwarzesmarken ( Japanese シ ュ ヴ ァ ル ツ ェ ス マ ー ケ ン , Shuvarutsesumāken ) is a light novel series by Hiroki Uchida with illustrations by Carnelian , which is a prequel to the games franchise Muv-Luv Alternative . It was released in Japan from 2010 to 2014, was spin-off in 2015 and was adapted as a computer game and anime television series. The action takes place in an alternate past in which aliens attacked Earth during the Cold War . The work belongs to the genres mecha and action.

action

Contact with extraterrestrials was made for the first time with the moon landing in 1967. Not long after this, called BETA, begins an invasion of Asia. They can often only be repulsed for a short time and overrun large parts of the continent. In 1983 they are in Poland on the Oder-Neisse border . The GDR became the protective shield of Western Europe and under military pressure the Stasi has developed into the greatest power in a radical surveillance state.

Lieutenant Theodor Eberbach belongs to the best mecha combat group of the NVA , Company 666, called "Schwarzesmarken" ( 黒 の 宣告 , actually "Black Judgment"). The youngster was picked up when his parents tried to escape and after interrogation and torture by the Stasi he went to the NVA service. He hasn't seen his stepsister since then. After an attack on the BETA, a so-called "laser hunt" on the alien units firing lasers, the group rescues a member of the German Armed Forces in their mecha from the BETA. The girl Katia Waldheim reminds Theodor of his sister, but at first he behaves in a dismissive manner towards her. She went over to the NVA because she wanted to get to know the GDR and its people and wanted to become part of the famous 666 company. Captain Irisdina Bernhard accepts this, as does political officer Gretel Jeckeln. Theodor, who is supposed to take care of her, tells Katia that she wants to look for her father in the GDR. He was a famous general who had repulsed the BETA, but disappeared when he rebelled against the Stasi.

By accepting Katia, the group makes itself suspicious and is put under pressure by the Stasi. She visits them in the person of the Wehrwolf Battalion under Beatrix Brehme and Heinz Axmann, who once also apprehended and interrogated Theodor. Despite the expected problems, Company 666 quickly accepted Katia as a comrade. Theodor initially distrusts Captain Bernhard, as she is said to have betrayed and killed her brother to the Stasi, as Beatrix Brehme revealed. But he learns that her brother sacrificed himself and that she now wants to pursue his goals. Not long after that, Liese Hohenstein joins them - the missing sister of Theodor, who was previously with the weapons Stasi. Everyone suspects her to be a spy, but a major offensive against the aliens is about to begin. Together with the troops from Western Europe and America, they set up a bridgehead near Danzig to relieve the GDR. They are successful and despite initial conflicts with members of the Bundeswehr, the squadron can win respect for its performance. They return as heroes, but the attack provoked a counter-attack by the BETA on the GDR.

Liese becomes more and more suspicious of his comrades in Company 666, asks many questions and ultimately even seduces Theodor, who was in love with his stepsister before. He wants to trust her. When the BETA attack begins and the NVA is at the front, the Stasi faction loyal to Moscow carries out a coup in Berlin. The Berlin-loyal parts of the Stasi with Axmann are quickly defeated and parliament is occupied. She also takes control of Company 666. As feared, Liese reveals herself to be a spy and is now supposed to question and torture her former comrades. But Theodor and Katia manage to escape. They meet with representatives of the NVA who want to oppose the Stasi and decide to use Katia's famous father and his vision of a philanthropic GDR to legitimize their counterattack. They proclaim a counter-revolution, which parts of the NVA join. First they succeed in freeing their comrades, only Captain Bernhard was previously transferred to another camp. Axmann now also wants to work with the insurgents, but western countries are behaving insecurely.

Fighting broke out between the NVA and Company 666 against the Stasi mecha units. Liese is killed by her brother and the rebels can assert themselves, but among them there are many casualties and members of Company 666 perish. Together with Axmann, they want to use the information from the Stasi files against the putschists. But he turns against the insurgents again and teams up with Beatrix Brehme. This has taken over the leadership of the putschists in order to make the GDR the ultimate surveillance state and to defeat the BETA with the forced unity of the state. In the attempt to rescue Captain Bernhard, the last fight against the putschists takes place. Meanwhile, a unit of the NVA and Katia were able to break into the radio building, from where she called for an uprising against the Stasi. While mass demonstrations against the power of the Stasi begin, Beatrix Brehme can be defeated as the last mecha pilot of the Stasi. A fight breaks out between Axmann and Bernhard. When the other rebels reach them, Axmann is shot and Bernhard is critically injured. At the same time, the BETA overcome their last defensive position, but are driven back by intervening UN units that are now supporting the insurgents. Irisdina Bernhard dies soon after in Theodor's arms, happy that her dream of a GDR without the Stasi will now come true.
