history

The first documentary mention comes from the year 1371 as Zwoytz . Schwoitsch was on a historic salt road that ran between Halle and Leipzig. Schwoitsch belonged to the Giebichenstein office in the hall circle of the Archbishopric of Magdeburg . In 1680 this came under Brandenburg-Prussian rule as the Duchy of Magdeburg . In the time of Napoleonic occupation (1807-1813) the place was assigned to the canton Dieskau in the district of Halle ( department of the Saale ) of the Kingdom of Westphalia .

During the political reorganization after the Congress of Vienna in 1815, Schwoitsch was attached to the administrative district of Merseburg in the Prussian province of Saxony and assigned to the Saalkreis. In 1851 and 1864, regionally important sugar factories were built. In addition, lignite was mined underground . At the turn of the 20th century, Schwoitsch became famous for growing seeds from beets, vegetables and flowers.

In 1910 the place had 564 inhabitants. The workers' movement played an important role in the town , taking part in actions including the suppression of the Kapp Putsch in March 1920. In 1925 the population had dropped to 501 people. In the autumn of 1926 the local volunteer fire brigade was founded.

On April 1, 1938, Schwoitsch was incorporated into Gröbers. In 1941 there was a barn fire in Gottenzer Weg.

In August 1962 a mill burned. A year later, in August 1963, the Kabelske burst its banks. There were other barn fires on September 24, 1967 in Delitzscher Weg / Mittelweg and in December 1972 in Weidmannsweg.

On January 1, 2004, it was incorporated into the unified municipality of Kabelsketal.
