Sebastián Cordero
Sebastián Cordero (born May 23, 1972 in Quito , Ecuador ) is an Ecuadorian director , screenwriter and producer . He is known for everything for the two films Ratas, Ratones y Ratoneros and Crónicas . They have been shown at a variety of well-known film festivals such as the Sundance Film Festival and the Cannes International Film Festival .
biography
Sebastián Cordero was born in Quito, Ecuador, in 1972. He first came into contact with the medium of cinema when he saw Raiders of the Lost Ark when he was nine years old . At 18, he began studying at the University of Southern California . After graduation, he returned to Ecuador with the idea of making films in his home country, where there was virtually no film industry .
His first film Ratas, Ratones y Rateros (1999) was shown first at the Venice International Film Festival , then in Toronto , San Sebastián and Buenos Aires .
At the Premios Ariel in Mexico , he was nominated for a Silver Ariel in the category of Best Latin American Film , at the Bogotá Film Festival for a Círculo Precolombino de Oro (German: Golden Pre-Columbian Circle ), at the Slamdance Film Festival for the Grand Jury Price and in Spain for a Goya for the best Spanish-language foreign film. It received an honorable mention in Bogotá and the award for the best editing at the International Festival of New Latin American Film in Havana .
His second feature film Crónicas (2004) was nominated in Mexico for the Silver Ariel and at the Cartagena Film Festival for the Golden India Catalina . He was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival . There he won the NHK Award . He was also awarded the Mayahuel Prize in the categories of Best Film and Best Screenplay at the Festival Internacional de Cine en Guadalajara . In total, his two films were nominated eight times at film festivals for awards, of which he won five.
Manhunt , a project for a film about finding the murderer of Abraham Lincoln starring Harrison Ford , was put on hold in 2007.
In 2013, Cordero directed the US science fiction film Europa Report .
