Sebastião Tapajós (born April 16, 1943 in Santarém , Pará ), actually Sebastião Tapajós Pena Marcião , is a Brazilian guitarist and composer .

Life

Sebastião Tapajós started learning the guitar as a child . He received his first lessons from his father. At the age of 10 he was already playing as a professional musician in the Os Mocorongos dance band in his hometown Santarém . In 1958 he moved to Belém , where he took lessons in music theory and harmony. In 1964 he went to Europe to study at the Conservatório Nacional de Música in Lisbon and to take courses in Spain with the guitarist Emilio Pujol .

After his intensive classical training, Sebastião Tapajós went to Rio de Janeiro , where he combined classical music with the influences of the Música Popular Brasileira in his compositions . This connection has remained in his music to this day.

During numerous concert tours through many countries, he was heard at the side of many well-known musicians such as Astor Piazzolla , Baden Powell , Gerry Mulligan , Hermeto Pascoal , Maurício Einhorn , Oscar Peterson , Paquito D'Rivera , Paulo Moura , Sivuca , Waldir Azevedo or the Zimbo Trio .
