Hans Walter Sebastian Dette (born April 26, 1958 in Daun ) is a German lawyer, former judge at the Federal Administrative Court (BVerwG) and President of the Thuringian Court of Auditors since 2010 .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1977 at the Werner-Heisenberg-Gymnasium Neuwied , Dette was a temporary soldier with Jagdbombergeschwader 31 in Nörvenich from 1977 to 1979 . Since then he has regularly completed military exercises and has since been promoted to lieutenant colonel in the reserve . After completing his military service, Dette studied law at Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz until 1983 . Until 1986, he did his legal clerkship at the German University of Administrative Sciences Speyer and in the administration of the state parliament of Rhineland-Palatinate . While still a trainee lawyer, Dette received her doctorate in 1985 at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz with a dissertation on the legal principle of Venire contra factum proprium .

Dette had already been working scientifically at Arndt Teichmann's chair in Mainz since 1979 and stayed there until 1986. In December 1986 he joined the Trier district government and was there until December 1987 as a consultant for the police, municipal supervision and disaster control. Until December 1988 Sebastian Dette was chairman of the district law committee of the district administration Trier-Saarburg and from the beginning of 1989 to November 1989 head of the parliament and cabinet department in the Ministry for Environment and Health of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate . Subsequently, until November 1990, he was head of the state examination office for physicians and head of the medical professions department in the Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry for Environment and Health. From November 1990 to November 2003 he headed the Parliamentary Service and Scientific Service and was Deputy Director at the Thuringian State Parliament .

In November 2003 Sebastian Dette became a judge at the Federal Administrative Court. He was initially a member of the 3rd Revision Senate, which deals with agriculture and forestry law, food law , hunting and fishing law , property allocation law and traffic law. In October 2009 he moved to the 2nd Military Service Senate, which is responsible for proceedings according to the military disciplinary code . On January 29, 2010 he was elected President of the Court of Auditors by the Thuringian State Parliament with 73 of 85 votes cast and with his appointment resigned from the service at the Federal Administrative Court. The post of President of the Audit Office had been vacant since May 2008, when Dette's predecessor Manfred Scherer became Minister of the Interior in Thuringia.

Dette is assigned to the Thuringia regional command and is a colonel in the reserve.

Dette is co-editor of the administrative law journal Thüringer Verwaltungsblätter and author of numerous specialist publications.
