Sebastian Kranich (born June 2, 1969 in Dresden ) is a German Protestant theologian . Kranich has been director of the Evangelical Academy Thuringia since October 2018 .

Life

Kranich was a member of the Kreuzchor and attended the Kreuzschule in Dresden, which he left with the Abitur in 1988 . In the same year he joined the opposition group Living nonviolently . From November 1988 to December 1989 he served as a construction soldier for the NVA in Leuna and Wolfen and then worked as an assistant nurse in Weimar . In 1990 he was involved in founding the Green Party in Weimar.

In 1990, Kranich began studying theology at Leipzig University , which he completed in 1996. From 1997 to 1999 he was a research assistant at the German Research Foundation and at the Institute for Protestant Theology at the Technical University of Dresden . He then worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Systematic Theology at the Theological Faculty of Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg . From 2003 to 2005 he completed a vicariate in Leipzig .

In 2005 , Kranich received his doctorate from the theological faculty of the University of Halle with the dissertation Die Sächsische Evangelisch-Soziale Vereinigung. From the foundation in 1903 to the beginning of the First World War in 1914 as a doctor of theology . From 2006 he was again involved as a research assistant in various projects at the Technical University of Dresden, the Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg and the Ruprecht Karls University of Heidelberg . Since October 1, 2018, he has been director of the Evangelical Academy of Thuringia in Neudietendorf and since November 2019 deputy chairman of the Evangelical Academies in Germany.

Politically, he was active from 2013 to 2015 for the Alliance 90 / The Greens as Bundestag - Direct candidate and city chairman in Halle (Saale). From 2015 to 2018 he worked as a pastor in eleven parishes in the parish of Dieskau (Halle-Saalkreis church district). Sebastian Kranich is married to Dr. Jutta Kranich-Rittweger and has two children. He is the author and editor of numerous specialist publications as well as co-author of the Biographical-Bibliographical Church Lexicon .
