Sedat Üstüner (born March 1, 1983 ) is a former Turkish boxer and 2004 middleweight Olympian .

Career

The 1.75 m tall Sedat Üstüner trained in the boxing department of Beşiktaş Istanbul and took part in the 2001 European Junior Championships in Sarajevo , where he defeated the future professional world champion Andy Lee and the Bosnian local hero Nermin Bašović, before beating the later one in the quarterfinals World champion Matwei Korobow was eliminated. He also won the Ahmet Cömert Tournament 2001 in Istanbul with victories against Bülent Ulusoy and Fırat Karagöllü.

In June 2003 he won the gold medal at the EU championships in Strasbourg after defeating Robert Woge , Ricardo Samms and Mamadou Diambang. The following month he started at the World Championships in Bangkok , but lost in the first fight against Oleg Maschkin .

In February 2004 he reached the second round of the European Championships in Pula , where he was stopped by Lukas Wilaschek . In April he took part in the Olympic qualification tournament in Gothenburg , where he was able to prevail against Jani Rauhala , Tomas Adámek and Aleksandr Rubjuk and reached the final. He was thus qualified for the Olympic Games in Athens in August 2004 , where he failed in the first duel against Sherzod Abdurahmanov from Uzbekistan. In October 2004 he still won the Turkish light heavyweight championships.

He also fought against world champions Damián Austin and Károly Balzsay, among others .
