Company history

The company founded by Albert Stoll in 1871 was carried on by his descendants, from which several companies emerged in 1958, including the manufacturer of chairs with the brand name SEDUS. This company was led by Christof Stoll . In 1985 Christof and Emma Stoll founded the Stoll VITA Foundation , a non-profit foundation to promote healthy eating and environmental protection, and transferred ownership of the company to them.

In 1995 Sedus was converted into a stock corporation. In the years that followed, the company made several start-ups and takeovers and thus became a full-service provider: In 1999 Sedus acquired a majority stake in the office furniture manufacturer Klöber GmbH (focus on office seating) based in Owingen. The company sees itself as innovative in the field of ergonomics and refers to the construction of Europe's first spring-loaded and tiltable swivel chair "Federdreh" in 1925 and further developments to the "dynamic seating principle" in the 1970s.

The company has been participating in international design competitions since 1996 and has won numerous awards such as the Red Dot Design Award or the iF Product Design Award .
