See No Evil is a 2006 horror film . It was directed by ex- porn director Gregory Dark . In Germany the film was released directly on DVD.

action

The policeman Williams and his colleague arrive at a house from which neighbors have heard loud screams. When they enter the crime scene, they find a woman whose eyes have been removed from the eye sockets. At that moment, the disturbed murderer attacks Jacob Goodnight Williams' colleague with an ax and chops off his arm. Williams can save himself by shooting Jacob in the back of the head.

Four years later, eight convicts are chosen by the prison officers to renovate the old Blackwell Hotel under Williams' supervision. If they do a good job, they are offered the prospect of early dismissal. Kira, who is behind bars for possessing drugs, meets her old dealer Michael here. However, the offenders noticed in the first night that there was a madman walking around in the house. Shortly after Richie and Tye find a homeless man whose eyes are missing, Richie is dragged into the elevator with a hook. Little by little, the killer murders the visitors to the building and removes the eyes of all his victims. When Williams hears a description of the killer, he realizes that it must be Goodnight, who was supposedly shot by him. Shortly afterwards, however, he too is killed by the killer with a hook.

Since Kira has various Christian tattoos, Goodnight lets her live and locks her in a dog cage. When Tye and Christine try to free Kira, Goodnight's mother intervenes. While Tye is crushed by Goodnight, Kira hopes to be saved. But the mother shows her true colors: she subjected her son to a severe punishment in his childhood and trained him as a “soldier of God” who was supposed to free humanity from “all dirt”. When she tries to kill Kira, Goodnight turns on his mother and impales her.

Eventually Christine, Michael and Kira manage to overpower and throw Goodnight from the 8th floor of the hotel. Goodnight's left eye is impaled on fall and his heart bursts on impact. During the end credits, a dog urinates in its eye.

background

Gregory Dark had the idea for a slasher film in the tradition of the Friday the 13th and Nightmare series. Dark auditioned at the WWE office looking for a convincing lead actor . When he saw Glenn Jacobs in action as Kane, he had found his lead. Only the role name of the wrestler is in the opening and closing credits . Based on his previous experience, Jacobs was able to do most of his stunts himself. The film relied on a mixture of coarse splatter motifs , combined with the atmosphere of the 1970s / 1980s terror films , such as Hill of Bloody Eyes and Last House on the Left . The effects were implemented partly with dummies, partly with CGI . The actual hotel is only one story, the remaining floors were added by computer. The cost of production, in which WWE participated, was approximately $ 8 million. See No Evil grossed around $ 15 million in US cinemas .

The film was released on March 26, 2007 as a rental DVD with the note “Uncut” on the cover. The film had a JK approval (“no serious risk to young people”), but despite the note, it was slightly shortened because the legal commission requested two cuts. This is why the label " Extended Version " is emblazoned on the DVD that was released on May 18, 2007 and on all later rental versions . At the end of February 2008, See No Evil was indexed on List B by the Federal Testing Office for Media Harmful to Young People (BPjM) and later moved to List A, which means that it can no longer be publicly offered and advertised. A version shortened by several scenes appeared a little later with FSK “No youth release” and cannot be indexed.

criticism

See No Evil is an average slasher film, the lexicon of international films described it as a "[tension-free], in all respects predictable horror dozen product that is content with speculative stringing together of murders." Other specialist media criticized the film's brutality, which is purely an end in itself and reminds of " violent porn " without sex. Due to the high blood content, the gloomy atmosphere and not least because of the portrayal of Glenn Jacobs, the film is valued in horror film circles.

continuation

See No Evil 2 was released in October 2014 . The screenplay for the sequel , funded by Lionsgate and WWE Studios , was written by Nathan Brookes and Bobby Lee Darby and directed by twin sisters Jen and Sylvia Soska .

Glenn Jacobs again embodies the character of Jacob Goodnight. Other leading roles include Danielle Harris , Katharine Isabelle , Michael Eklund and Chelan Simmons .
