history

According to legend, the Jagdhof Silicanvelth goes back to Charlemagne in the 8th century. It was first mentioned in 961 in two documents from King Otto I and fellow king Otto II from July 15 and 25 as Silicanvelth . Selkenfelde is expressly referred to as "villa", which means village. In 1203 King Otto IV gave the village of Stiege and with him Selkenfelde to Count Siegfried von Blankenburg for arms aid. The place is mentioned in 1209/27 in the count's list of properties as "villa que dicitur Selekenvelde". Until the end of the 14th century, the village community still had its own pastor. From the 15th century there were no more documented mentions of the place. It can therefore be assumed that the place was desolate long before the Thirty Years War .

Between 1885 and 1887 H. Brinkmann excavated the local church, the Selkirche. Traces of ravine clearly indicate the connection to the long-distance connection via Hohe Straße from Güntersberge to Stiege.

To the northeast, the Selkenfelder Schanze was built during the Seven Years' War .
