Selon Charlie is a French film drama from the year 2006 by Nicole Garcia with Jean-Pierre Bacri , Vincent Lindon and Benoît Magimel . The work distributed by Constantin Film carried the note in Germany: "Three days, seven people, a decisive moment!"

action

Preface: "It is said that every person has to face his past once in his life."

The eleven-year-old Charlie does not play the main role, but within three days on the picturesque French Atlantic coast, the behavior, the insecurity and also the mendacity of seven adult men who have to bear on their self-determined existence are reflected in his eyes. Since there isn't too much going on here outside of the holiday season, they meet again and again purely by chance and start talking.

The paths of a patriarchal mayor who embarks on an affair with a woman who could be his daughter, a high school teacher, a paleontologist, a bad luck haunted crook who is preparing a huge coup, a physiotherapist, a pool worker, cross paths tricked his son into giving him an alibi for the time he was with his lover and a professional tennis player who is currently in a self-destructive phase. None of them had anything to do with each other beforehand. These people have to face how they have lived their lives up to now and put up with the question of what should have been done differently. What was in your own hand. Which direction would their lives have taken if they had changed their minds at this or that point? For the seven people these three days will be a turning point in their lives. Eleven year old Charlie inadvertently holds up a mirror to them more than once, making them remember the dreams they had as children and what became of them. In the end, a change occurred in everyone that was not foreseeable, the course must be set again, because the men have recognized that in the few days at the sea something has started that they have to face.

criticism

“After a rather cumbersome introduction of the characters, a warm-hearted, cautiously happy film develops, which builds understanding and closeness to the protagonists and tells of the loss of childlike innocence. A cleverly constructed, impressively photographed and exquisitely played film about the fear of loneliness. "

Kino.de judged that Nicola Garcia's new film was “funny and solid” […]. It also said: “The former actress combines the tonally very different episodes in a virtuoso manner. In the ensemble comedy, Jean-Pierre Bacri and Benoit Poelvoorde in particular play outstandingly. "

Julien Welter from Die Zeit was of the opinion, "Disappointments, loneliness and dismaying things do not make a film an impressive work ..." He went on to say that it was the "known patterns" that the actors and "the film." a victim of the script ”. Namely a script that “simply fails to get the bottom line from these little stories, which certainly fit well into current affairs, but come across as too academic and seem like an admission of impotence. Nonetheless, the director Nicole Garcia once again proves her competence and gratifying ambitions ”.

At kino-zeit.de one was of the opinion that “the complex story builds up slowly with the development of the male characters, who ultimately prove to be not very self-sufficient, and at least rudimentarily the impulse for rescue from almost arbitrarily installed small female roles [would] experience, but their implementation would be difficult [] ”. It also said there Der Spiegel accused Garcia that "her staging of the social drama falls short of the concept of characters and actions as inadequately, so that the impression of a disordered provisionality is created", and that even after the press screening there was "meager applause" and gave "whistles".

The trade magazine The Hollywood Reporter saw, however, different and was of the opinion "that the film the viewer leave about his maturity, a consistent warm feeling that awakens the desire to look at him a second time." Praise was also "the excellent acting Achievements and the moving stories of the individual storylines "that director Garcia" confidently linked ".
