The Semine is a river in France that runs through the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes regions. It rises in the municipality of La Pesse , in the Haut-Jura Regional Nature Park , initially drains south-west through the Jura Mountains and reaches the A40 motorway at Saint-Germain-de-Joux , which accompanies it on its further course. It turns here in a south-easterly direction and flows into the Valserine as a right tributary after a total of 26 kilometers at Châtillon-en-Michaille , but on the border with the neighboring municipality of Montanges . On its way, the Semine crosses the Jura and Ain departments .

Above Belleydoux, the river forms several waterfalls , including the famous Saut à l'Âne .
