The Sengelsberg in the Habichtswälder Bergland is 449  m above sea level. NHN high mountain of the Hinterhabichtswälder peaks near Niedenstein in the north Hessian Schwalm-Eder district .

The Sengelsberg rises in the southern part of the Hinterhabichtswälder peaks at the interface with the Langenberg mountains to the east . The summit of the mountain in the Habichtswald Nature Park is 1.1 km northeast of the church in the center of the Niedensteiner core town and about 1 km north of the summit of the Niedensteiner Kopf .

On the mountain is the 22 hectare large area natural monument (FND) mountain top with forest Sengelsberg . The river Wiehoff flows past the Ems to the west . The H5 extra tour of the Habichtswaldsteig runs over the northeast flank of the mountain .

Natural allocation

The Sengelsberg belongs in the natural spatial main unit group West Hessian mountain and sink country (No. 34) and in the main unit Habichtswälder Bergland (342) to the sub-unit Hinterhabichtswälder Kuppen (342.2).

history

Historically, the mountain was mentioned in 1435, when the Hessian Landgrave Ludwig I awarded the knight Hermann Hund from nearby Kirchberg Höfe in Niedenstein, the Schwosbach desert , Höfe in Wichdorf , Emserberg , Hausen and the Sengelsberg with accessories as castle and man fiefs as it had previously been held by Simon von Homberg .
