The Sennesee is a lake created by sand mining southeast of the town of Schloß Holte-Stukenbrock .
location
The Sennesee is located in the Senne in the east of the Gütersloh district . The approximately 13.5 ha large body of water is located entirely in the area of the town of Schloß Holte-Stukenbrock. Together with an approximately 4.4 hectare large body of water adjoining it to the west and only separated from the main lake by a road, the Sennesee represents the largest body of water in the urban area.
The course of the Furlbach is just south of the lake area , but there is no direct connection to this body of water or only via the groundwater. The federal motorway 33 runs around 360 meters south-west of the lake and after another 380 meters the city limits towards Hövelhof .
use
The Sennesee has been included in the biotope register of the State Institute for Ecology, Land Management and Forests in North Rhine-Westphalia and is therefore to be regarded as a biotope worthy of protection under the North Rhine-Westphalian State Nature Conservation Act . For this reason there is a ban on swimming in the water and a ban on use by water sports . For fishing, however , the Sennesee is approved.
fauna
In 2005, the noble crayfish was detected for the first time in Sennesee , since then an increase in the species, which is endangered in North Rhine-Westphalia, has been observed. The occurrence of this type of cancer, which depends on the warm, nutrient-rich waters of the lowlands , is an indicator of the high water quality of the lake. In addition, the Sennesee fish species eel , perch , gudgeon , pike , carp , tench , white fish and pikeperch can be found . In contrast to the noble crayfish, these species are not based on a natural occurrence, but on the result of fish stocking for fishing.
Furthermore, in the area of the lake and its shores, specialized bird species live, including the kingfisher , the reed warbler and the gray goose.
