Sergei Wiktorowitsch Saljotin ( Russian Сергей Викторович Залётин , scientific transliteration Sergej Viktorovič Zalëtin ; born April 21, 1962 in Shchokino , Tula Oblast , USSR ) is a former Russian cosmonaut .

Military training

Salyotin attended the Higher Military School in Borisoglebsk until 1983 and then became a fighter pilot in the Soviet Air Force . From February 1994 he was an instructor for the paratroopers and can prove more than 1,350 flight hours on five types of aircraft as well as more than 220 parachute jumps . He holds the rank of Colonel in the Russian Air Force . He also has a degree in environmental management from the Russian State Academy of Petroleum and Gas . In 2007 he graduated from the Air Force Military Academy with a gold medal.

Cosmonaut activity

On May 11, 1990 Salyotin was selected as a pilot in the air force and a candidate for the cosmonaut training center, and he completed his basic cosmonaut training in March 1992. In 2000, Sergei Salyotin was a member of the last Mir regular crew. He paid a visit to the International Space Station with Soyuz TMA-1 in 2002.

Salyotin left the cosmonaut corps on September 20, 2004 to work as head of laboratory at the Russian State Scientific Research Institute and as an instructor at the cosmonaut training center. On October 3, 2004, he was elected as a member of the Duma of Tula Oblast , and on January 11, 2011, he returned to the cosmonaut corps.

In July 2013 Saljotin was as commander of Soyuz TMA-19M appointed, he was in November 2015, Timothy Kopra and Timothy Peake the ISS Expeditions 46 and 47 members, but he resigned on 1 May 2014 for medical reasons out of the cosmonaut squad from . He was replaced by Yuri Malenchenko .

Private

Salyotin is married and has one son. His hobbies are chess , sports and traveling .
