action

On the evening before her 35th birthday, the red-haired and good-looking Claire Doste invites the three great loves of her life and a friend to dinner. Claire finally wants to commit and find out in a direct comparison which of these men is the right one for a permanent bond and a family. But dinner turns out differently than expected, as her lovers die one after the other. The first, Sacha , accidentally stumbles into a long knife in the kitchen, the second, Hakim , is stabbed to death by the large pieces of a bursting bathroom mirror, and the third, Charles , has a bowling ball and an ice skate split the skull. Claire's friend Ruitchi also confesses his love for her in the course of the evening, then tries to take his own life out of desperation with pills and is also thought to be dead by the hostess. Claire tries in vain to reach her sister Alice by phone and ask for help.

Because two criminals are terrorizing the entire neighborhood, the police are not far away and a penetrating and curious investigator is repeatedly in Claire's apartment during the course of the evening . In addition, her sister Alice shows up at some point with a whole horde of freaky birthday guests who stir up a hubbub and turn Claire's apartment completely upside down. Finally, the scoundrels that Inspector Cellier was looking for attacked Claire in her apartment and looked for shelter in the Wurlitzer jukebox there . To thank Claire for keeping them hidden from the inspector, they take the three bodies away. In the closing scenes, Inspector Cellier explains that he knew about the bodies all along and wanted to give Claire the opportunity to admit it herself. Romantic feelings eventually develop between the inspector and Claire, but as soon as they get closer, Claire accidentally kills the inspector with a knife. In the credits you can hear Claire calling her sister Alice again and asking for help to dispose of the body.

Reviews

“The first breathes life in the kitchen, the second in the bathroom and the third in the TV room. And in such a bizarre way that the lover of the blackest joke hurts the diaphragm after less than half an hour. [...] A pushy policeman, two borderline criminals and many uninvited party guests turn this night into a hysterical hell trip for the hopelessly overwhelmed Claire. And for the viewer first-class pleasure - thanks to the disrespectful, anarchic humor and a coolness that "Pulp Fiction" director Quentin Tarantino would have done to honor. "

“A pitch-black comedy determined by an extremely agile leading actress, which shows little sensitivity and dramaturgical skill and seeks its capital in garish effects. The only asset is the brilliant camera work. "

“A killer comedy tending towards surreal exaggeration with probably the funniest causes of death in film history. [...] With his first feature film, the French filmmaker James Huth has succeeded in creating an extremely amusing horror showpiece. He confidently uses the well-known set pieces of the genre in order to dismantle them with relish and then confidently drive them to the extreme. A film that Quentin Tarantino and John Waters could have imagined on the phone: ultra-stylized cinematic sequences, jet-black humor, perfect timing - a real pulp pearl. [...] What James Huth has packed into "Serial Lover" in terms of ideas, comedy, verve and horror is simply breathtaking. His film is like a grandiose New Year's Eve rocket that - once exploded - conjures up ever more spectacular showers of fireworks in the celluloid sky. "
