The Severnaya ( Russian Северная ; literally translated "the Northern") in the Asian part of Russia is a 331 km long northeast and orographically right tributary of the Lower Tunguska in the Siberian Krasnoyarsk region .

Geographical location

The Severnaya rises about 80 km north of the Arctic Circle in the southwest part of the Putorana Mountains , the northwest part of the Central Siberian Mountains . It flows from the Severnojesee , located between about 1005  m high mountains at 201  m altitude, which is fed in particular by Oron , Delingde and Epeklisen . It runs mainly southwest through the mountains and flows - some after crossing the Arctic Circle - at a height of about m into the Lower Tunguska ; Around 63 river kilometers west-southwest of its confluence , at the confluence of the Lower Tunguska with the Yenisei, lies the town of Turukhansk . The Severnaya is covered with ice between October and the end of May.

Catchment area, vegetation and settlement

The drainage area of the Severnaya covers about 21,200 km². Their area of origin lies in the region of permafrost with the lichens and mosses typical of the tundra , the forest tundra extends further downstream or south . Because of the remoteness there are only small settlements .
