action

Spain , in the present. The tyrannical Antonio Aguilar, who does not tolerate disobedience, lives with his wife Maria, their daughter Miria, his younger brother Ignacio, who has been in a wheelchair since a tragic accident, and the nun Sol and servant Isidro high up in a magnificent castle in the mountains. The coexistence of the six people is shaped by the moods and jealousies of the host, who idolizes and adores his faithless Maria.

One day Maria dies under mysterious circumstances. The attending physician Juan, at the same time the lord's best friend, believes that she sees the reason for her death in her hysterical attacks and the associated gifts of Valium , but certifies a heart attack as the official cause of death in order to avoid an autopsy . At some point the white-clad corpse of the deceased is laid out. The bereaved say goodbye, including the teenage Miria, who appears late. When Miria approaches her dead mother, the arrogant and always in a bad mood Antonio thinks he sees something supernatural, a worrying mother-child relationship in which the deceased confides in her daughter and asks her for help. Juan, the friend and doctor present, manages to calm Antonio down.

Strange things go on in the old building at night. The pious and superstitious Isidro is convinced that Mary's mind is restless and that it could harm the young daughter. Therefore he tries to protect the adolescents in a supernatural ritual. At the same time, the voice of the dead wakes the sleeping Miria, who descends to the crypt in a kind of trance and becomes an eyewitness of the mysterious goings-on. Their fearful screams wake up all the castle residents, whereupon the attending physician diagnoses a state of shock the next morning and recommends that they be admitted to a special clinic for several weeks. The young woman claims to have been guided by a familiar voice. Antonio and sister Sol, who takes care of the child and Ignacio, who is in need of care, do not believe Miria's statements.

The following night Juan dies while embalming Maria's body. Before that, the medic, who passionately desired the deceased, had nightmarish visions in the course of which he injected himself with a lethal drug. After the second death within a few hours, the angry servant wants to call the police, the landlord mocks his employee and tries to hide the incident. At night Miria is woken up again by the voice of her dead mother, who now mercilessly demands the death of all people living in the castle. For this purpose, she uses her daughter's body several times. After the servant also dies a death initiated by Maria, Antonio tries to get rid of his former rivals. His mute and paralyzed brother Ignacio, who once had a secret love affair with his sister-in-law, is said to be his first victim. He locks him up in the basement of the castle to leave him to his agonizing fate. Maria kills him in the form of Miria after a bizarre act of love.

Meanwhile, Antonio, who has been heavily addicted to drugs for some time and regularly injects himself with painkillers , tries in a downright madness to get rid of Sister Sols. The nun, who had a lesbian liaison with the lady of the castle, is severely threatened by him and put in a dungeon. That same night, the hallucinating Antonio, who believes he has had an incestuous relationship with his daughter , panics and carelessly falls to his death.

At the end of the film, Mary's spirit, in the form of the young Miria, wants to take possession of Sister Sol's body for an exchange of tenderness, but the beloved defends herself because she recognizes Miria and not Maria's body. She feels disgust and disgust, flees the unpleasant personalities of Mary's corpse, to which she devotedly sacrifices herself in order to enable Miria to lead a normal life. She dies in front of Miria at the end of the film.

criticism

Michael Den Boer from 10K bullets certified the film with a lot of atmosphere and a filled 74 minutes in which a lot happened. In many ways the film is a superior film to its predecessor, Malabimba . Nico Catanese's music is also excellent. Ultimately, Satan's Baby Doll , although the film begins as a remake, is the more entertaining and more engaging film of the two.

On the Italo-Cinema page it is said that Mario Bianchi is not necessarily “a guarantee for high-quality arthouse cinema”, but that he was good at “brisk and level entertainment”. Here he shows that he can also offer something for the eye. Overall, the film has “a lot of atmosphere” and is “anything but cheap or even trashy in terms of the images and camera work”.

Horrorview saw it differently, however. There it was said that the short running time and the minimalist plotting did little to soften the boring story in harmless 'Horrotica' by the Italian exploitation company Gabriele Crisanti.

Horror Movie A Day said that there isn't really a lot of horror or killings in a horror film, people just stand around and talk. But even with the excess of conversation and lack of real horror, this is a delightfully weird little piece of junk.
