Sharon Walraven (born June 19, 1970 in Schaesberg ) is a Dutch wheelchair tennis player .

Career

Sharon Walraven had an ice skating accident at the age of 23 and has been in a wheelchair ever since. At the age of 24 she started wheelchair tennis and started in the paraplegic class .

She took part in two Paralympic Games . In 2000 in Sydney she only appeared in singles and reached the final. Against Esther Vergeer, she lost 0: 6, 4: 6. When she took part in Beijing for the second time in 2008 , she competed in singles and doubles. While she was eliminated in the quarterfinals against Florence Gravellier in singles , she won the gold medal in doubles with Korie Homan . In the final they defeated Esther Vergeer and Jiske Griffioen in three sets.

At the Wheelchair Tennis Masters she reached the final in the individual in 2003 and 2006. Both times she was defeated by Esther Vergeer. In the doubles competition, she also suffered two final defeats in 2003 and 2004, and in 2010 and 2011 she won the title for the first time. In Grand Slam tournaments , she celebrated her only single title win at the 2005 Australian Open . In doubles, she won a total of seven titles, all alongside Esther Vergeer. From Wimbledon in 2010 to the Australian Open in 2012, she won seven titles in a row and thus managed a Grand Slam in 2011 by winning all four tournaments at the same time.

In the world rankings she achieved her best placings in singles with second place on April 11, 2005 and in doubles with first place on July 4, 2005.
