Sherlock Holmes - The Secret Cases of the Master Detective is the name of a radio play series for adults and young people from the Titania Medien label, based on the famous characters Sir Arthur Conan Doyles . The series consists of both new cases by the author Marc Gruppe and original artwork by Sir Arthur Conan Doyles. Stephan Bosenius & Marc Gruppe are responsible for production and direction. The first episode appeared in 2011.

content

So far unknown cases are told about the master detective Sherlock Holmes and his friend and chronicler Dr. John Watson from the late 19th century. These are classic criminal cases with a dash of humor. A characteristic of the stories are the frequent references to real historical personalities and events.

background

After the audio game label Titania Medien was founded in 2003, the production of detective radio plays began there. A year later, the publication of some Sherlock Holmes settings based on classic cases by Arthur Conan Doyle began. However, these radio plays were barely noticed in retail, which is why after a few cases they initially refrained from further publications. In the background, however, the planning of a new series of radio plays with an independent concept was started, which was published from autumn 2011 as Sherlock Holmes - The Secret Cases of the Master Detective . During the planning phase, particular emphasis was placed on a stylish atmosphere, in which the cover design plays a major role in addition to the radio plays. The illustrator Firuz Askin, who was already responsible for the coherent cover of the radio play series Horror Cabinet , was commissioned to design them. The characters Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson were much younger in the radio play series and thus cast closer to the original than is the case in many other films and radio plays. For the main roles, the experienced voice actors Joachim Tennstedt (including the German voice of John Malkovich) as Holmes and Detlef Bierstedt (including the German voice of George Clooney) as Dr. Watson, who both spoke this role in Titania's early radio plays.

At the start of the series, the titles of the first 12 episodes were already fixed. Firuz Askin was able to finish the work on the illustrations for these first 12 covers before he passed away on October 3, 2011. Episode 4 was originally supposed to appear together with episode 3 in November 2011, but had to be postponed due to a team member's illness. It finally appeared in May 2012 together with episode 5. Due to the company's relocation to new business premises, only one episode could appear in November 2012. Four episodes per year are planned for the future, two in spring and two in autumn.

Since November 2013, radio plays based on the original stories by Arthur Conan Doyle have also been appearing within the series. On the radio plays concerned, the title addition The Secret Cases of the Master Detective is not present and the author's name Marc Gruppe is replaced by Doyle's name. With episodes 10 and 11, two radio plays that had already been published by Titania were first re-released and then a new adaptation of A Scandal in Böhmen was brought onto the market.

A third path has been taken since episode 33: The stories of other detectives such as Flaxman Low (invented by the authors H. and E. Heron) and Ronald Standish (by the author Herman Cyril McNeile) are being rewritten to Holmes.

The series takes place in the well-known Sherlock Holmes universe and so far does not contradict the canon of the original cases.
