Shimanto is located southwest of Kōchi on the Tosa Bay of the Pacific Ocean . The river of the same name flows through Shimanto .

history

Shimanto was founded on April 10, 2005 from the union of the city of Nakamura ( 中 村 市 , -shi ) with the village of Nishitosa ( 西 土 佐 村 , -mura ) in Hata County.
