Shin'ichi Fukushima

Shin'ichi Fukushima ( Japanese 福島 晋 一 , Fukushima Shin'ichi ; born September 13, 1971 in Suita ) is a former Japanese cyclist .

Shin'ichi Fukushima began his career in 2002 with the French cycling team Marlux-Ville de Charleroi . In his first year he won a stage in the Tour of Japan . A year later he moved to the Japanese team Bridgestone-Anchor , where he was national road champion straight away. In 2004 he was the only Japanese to win the overall ranking of the Tour of Japan (as of 2016). From 2006 to 2009 he drove for the Cycle Racing Team Vang . In 2006 he finished sixth in the Tour du Limousin and shortly afterwards third in the Châteauroux Classic de l'Indre . After 17 years, Fukushima ended his active cycling career in 2013.

Fukushima is considered a "Japanese cycling legend", partly because he was actively committed to supporting other young cyclists from his home country. For 15 years in the preseason he organized a training camp in Thailand, where his wife is from. His brother Koji was also a cyclist until 2008.

In 2014 and 2015 he worked as a sporting director for the La Pomme Marseille 13 team .
