Shongaloo is a city in Webster Parish in the US state of Louisiana . Almost 200 people live in an area of ​​over 20 square kilometers.

Shongaloo is part of the Ark-La-Tex socio-economic region , which includes parts of the four states of Arkansas , Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas .

Shongaloo is located in northwest Louisiana, about six miles from the northern border with Arkansas and 67 kilometers from the western border with Texas. About 15 kilometers west of the city are the two lakes, Lake Murray and Paper Mill Pond .

Nearby cities include Sarepta (13 km southwest), Haynesville (13 km east), Cotton Valley (15 km southwest), Springhill (17 km northwest), and Homer (25 km southeast). The next larger city is Shreveport, 50 kilometers southwest, with around 200,000 inhabitants .

In north-south orientation, Shongaloo is traversed by Louisiana Highway 159 , which leads to Minden in the south . In the city center it crosses Louisiana Highway 2 , which leads from Vivian in the west to Bernice and merges there into US Highway 63 / US Highway 167 .

About 40 kilometers south of the city runs Interstate 20 , which connects six states over a length of 2,470 kilometers. There are also plans to extend Interstate 69 south. It would then run a few kilometers east of the city.

The 2000 census showed a population of 162 people, spread over 65 households and 47 families. The population density was less than eight people per square kilometer. 98.2% of the population were whites, 0.6% Native Americans, and 0.6% Hispanics or Latin Americans. 1.2% had two or more ethnicities. For every 100 women there were 105 men. The median age was 45 and the per capita income was almost $ 21,000, which means that just over 10% of the population lived below the poverty line.

By the 2010 census , the population had risen to 182.
