The Sickinger level is a natural area (consecutive numbering: 180.0) in the north of the Zweibrücker Westrich within the Saar-Nahe-Bergland . It extends over an area north of Bann to Schwarzenacker and crosses the border between Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland . It forms the distinctive and widely visible edge of the Westrich plateau on its northern edge.

Location and demarcation

The Sickinger level forms the transition from the lowlands of the St. Ingbert-Kaiserslauterer Senke to the Sickinger Höhe . It rises from the Homburg basin with a height between 225 and 250  m above sea level. NHN to the southeast and from the Jägersburger Moor (also called Peterswaldmoor) and from the Landstuhler Bruch to the south in a distinctive stratification at 380 to 462  m above sea level. NHN strongly. Small and medium-sized rock formations from the red sandstone of the Karlstalschichten often come to light along the edge of the rock . B. the Heidenfelsen at Hauptstuhl , the rock of the same name at Bärenloch in Kindsbach or the rocky landscape in the Fleischackerloch near Landstuhl .

Several short notch valleys lead their watercourses to the north and west. The Lambsbach flows through the area in its entire length of about 15 km southwest. The only three places within the Sickinger level are located on it: Lambsborn , Bechhofen and Kirrberg . The villages of Schwarzenacker , Schwarzenbach , Homburg , Sanddorf , Bruchhof , Vogelbach , Bruchmühlbach , Hauptstuhl , Landstuhl and Kindsbach are located on its north-western and northern edge .

The area is mostly forested. It shows the two uppermost layers of the red sandstone, which are close to each other.

Sights and culture

Prehistoric and early historical finds, etc. a. Menhirs, indicate the early settlement of the landscape area. There are some castle and palace ruins towards the Kaiserslauterer Senke, u. a. the High Castle in Homburg , Karlsberg Castle at Sand Village , Nanstein Castle in Landstuhl . In Kirrberg the remains of the find Merburg .
