Siegfried Emmo Owls

Siegfried Emmo Eulen (born September 23, 1890 in Cloppenburg , † January 20, 1945 in Weeze ) was one of the presidents of the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge .

Life

Born as the son of a bailiff , Eulen studied German and philosophy in Freiburg and Heidelberg after attending the Oberrealschule in Oldenburg . During his studies in 1909 he became a member of the Freiburg fraternity of Teutonia . He was a member of the Wandervogel . In 1914 he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD . He took part in the First World War from 1914 to 1918. Since 1917 he was an officer in the war graves administration in Poland , Galicia and Turkey .

In 1919 he co-founded the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge , which he chaired as president from 1933 to 1945. From 1939 to 1945 he took part in the Second World War, at the end of which he succumbed to a war wound.

Honors

During the First World War he was awarded the Iron Cross 1st and 2nd class. In Weeze, Siegfried-Eulen-Strasse was named after him. From 1952 to 1963 the Volksbund awarded the Siegfried Emmo Owl Plaque as its highest honor .
