Siegfried Schönherr (born July 25, 1934 in Bad Elster i. V.) is a German military economist, political scientist , former colonel in the National People's Army and local researcher (Upper Vogtland region).

He was professor for military economics (1981) at the military academy "Friedrich Engels" of the NVA in Dresden (1961–1990), with a teaching position also at other civil universities of the German Democratic Republic .

Life

Origin and education

Siegfried Schönherr was born on July 25, 1934 in Bad Elster i. V. born. After attending the primary school in Sohl / Mühlhausen i. V. he placed at the extended elementary and high school Oelsnitz i. V. passed the Abitur examination (1952).

In 1952 he joined the Barracked People's Police (KVP) in the GDR. After a short basic training in various KVP readiness and temporary work in a regimental political department, he graduated from the political officer school of the KVP in Berlin-Treptow (1953–1955).

Professional career (until 1990)

After his appointment as an officer (1955), Schönherr worked as a club manager at the KVP news school in Pirna until 1957 . In March 1956, Siegfried Schönherr was accepted into the National People's Army (NVA) and employed as a specialist history teacher (1956-1958) at the NVA infantry school in Plauen . Externally, he completed the technical school teacher examination. In a training course (1959-1961) of the Franz Mehring Institute of Karl Marx University in Leipzig, he qualified on the political officer of the NVA school in Berlin-Treptow for graduate teachers .

Siegfried Schönherr began his academic and university teaching career in the fall of 1961 at the military academy "Friedrich Engels" (MAFE) in Dresden with a teaching position as a specialist teacher (1961–1965) for political economy.

After an extra-occupational, unscheduled traineeship at the military academy, Schönherr received his first academic title Doctor of Philosophy (Dr. phil.) In 1965 - with a dissertation on the logistics of the Bundeswehr. From 1965 he worked as a main subject teacher and department head military economics and was appointed (university) lecturer in 1968 .

From 1971 to 1973, he completed a post-graduate course in business administration at the Technical University of Dresden. His PhD B (1975) at the military academy for a doctorate in economic sciences (Dr. sc. Oec.) Followed - with a joint work on economics in the armed forces (ÖSK). Schönherr was appointed associate professor for political economy and military economy in 1981 .

Schönherr is considered to be the co-founder of the general theory of military economy in the GDR. He developed a theory as well as a didactic teaching building for the economic safeguarding of national defense. He received teaching positions at the Humboldt University of Berlin (Military Finance Section), the Friedrich List University of Transport (Military Transport Section) and the Cottbus University of Applied Sciences (Military Construction Section).

Schönherr was a member of the Scientific Council of the Military Academy and worked on the Scientific Council for Economic Research at the Academy of Sciences of the GDR, the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Higher Education and Technical Schools and the University of Economics "Bruno Leuschner" .

Before the dissolution of the NVA in the course of establishing German unity, Siegfried Schönherr was released from active military service on September 30, 1990.

Scientific activity (from 1991)

In October 1990 Siegfried Schönherr was a founding member of the Dresden Study Group on Security Policy . V. and board member from 1994 until its dissolution. He published DSS working papers in the series and was editor-in-chief for 47 issues of the series.

At the beginning of the 1990s, Schönherr became a member of the Society for Military Economics. V. and was a member of the board until 1993. On their behalf, he published works on military economics, including arms conversion.

For a short time he worked as a freelancer for private and publicly funded conversion institutes.

Schönherr is the author and, since 2007, the editor of several scientific publications on local history research in the Upper Vogtland and publishes in relevant journals. He is a member of the Vogtland Literature Society " Julius Mosen ".

Awards

  • 1984 Friedrich Engels Prize of the GDR, third class for his share of book publications on economics and national defense.
  • 1975 Friedrich Engels Prize of the GDR, third class, for his part in the dissertation on economics in the armed forces.
